A Prayer For 2020

As I was praying about the start of this new year and new decade, I felt led to pray for myself and for my friends and family that this would be the best year we’ve had yet! 

By that, I don’t mean necessarily the most fun, or the easiest, or the most comfortable year. Regardless of what happens in our circumstances and in the world this year, I pray we will grow closer to Jesus, we will know Him better, we will experience His healing and transforming power at work in us, we will be filled with His life to do the good things He has created, prepared, and empowered us to do, and that in the ways that matter most, we will be able to look back at 2020 and say, it was the best year yet. 

I’ve been encouraged to hear other people also talking about and praying for this same thing…which I think means that this prayer is coming from God’s heart and His desire for us as His children. And the good news is, it’s totally possible! It’s possible that with God’s power, love, and grace pouring over us, this can be our best year yet. 

So I offer this prayer for all of God's children for 2020. I’ve already prayed it, and I will continue to pray it. Will you join me? 

To GOD be all the glory! 


A Prayer for 2020: 

Lord God Almighty, 
I pray, in Jesus’ name, according to your will, that 2020 would be the best year yet for all of your children!

I pray we will all grow to know you better and to have sweeter intimacy with you. I pray we will grow in your grace and experience more of your healing, freedom, and love. Thank you that you want us to be close to you, that you delight in us, and you are always with us.

I pray you will fill us with more of your life, and empower us to do the good works you have prepared for us this year. Thank you for your Holy Spirit who lives in us and is so beautifully and powerfully at work in us and through us. 

I pray you will strengthen and build up our faith, give us increased confidence in you, and greater peace and trust in you. Thank you for your Word and your eternal faithfulness, continually assuring us that you are trustworthy.

I pray you will bring healing and restoration in relationships and greater unity in your whole family. Thank you for being our perfect heavenly Father.

I pray we will speak lovely, true, kind, and gracious words more and more. And that you will speak through us and to us through one another. Thank you that we can choose to speak life and watch you bring change and healing.

I pray for your supernatural protection over all your children - over our families, churches, ministries, schools, homes, businesses, jobs, travels, activities, relationships, minds, hearts, and faith. Thank you that we are safe in you and you are sovereign over all.

I pray for a supernatural blessing of your joy within us, that grows and is strong and uncrushable because of who you are, all you have done, and what we know you will yet do. Thank you for the pure, eternal joy of knowing you!

I pray you will fulfill the promises you have made to your children that have reached their proper time. And that you will do miracles small and large that will bring praise to your name. Thank you that you love to do above and beyond what we ask or imagine!

I pray you will fill us with supernatural boldness to reach out to others with grace and truth, with words of life, and with acts of love - so that more people will come to know you this year than any year so far in history. Thank you for our heavenly home and for the privilege of inviting others to be part of your family.

Lord Jesus, I pray you will shine more brightly through us, dispelling the darkness around us. I pray your presence, power, and love will be evident in our lives whatever we go through. Thank you that you do not change, that you are still the same God who parted the Red Sea, fed 5,000 with a few loaves, and rose from the dead!

Father, I pray you will have more of an impact in us and through us this year, than our circumstances or the world have on us - because you are greater! Thank you that you are good, almighty, wise, gracious, loving - and that you are our God!

We praise you that you hear our prayers and you are already answering! Thank you for all that you are doing - both what we see and what we don’t see yet. 

In 2020 may your good plans be fulfilled in us and through us, and may you be worshipped, loved, and honored! May this be our best year yet!
