Need A Hug? (¿Necesitas un abrazo?)

The last year has been one of so much loss…. Many people have lost loved ones. Many have lost jobs. Some have lost homes. Others have even lost hope.

Loss leads to grief. And grief is a strange thing.

That’s probably because we weren’t originally designed to ever experience grief. God created us for a perfect world...but then Adam & Eve sinned, so then death came, and then grief followed death. Maybe that’s why grief feels so foreign no matter how many times we experience it.

Each person experiences grief differently.

I cried more tears as an adult when my horse died than I cried as a child when my father died. Obviously I’ve grieved more over the years for my father, but the shock and pain over my horse’s death was stronger somehow.

A friend of mine who lost her five-year old son said it was two years later that the grief finally hit her like a semi truck. Just when those around her thought she’d be mostly recovering from her grief, she was only beginning with it.

You probably have your own strange story about grief.

This blog post isn’t the definitive word on grief or an answer for any particular facet of grief. This post is simply intended to be a hug today…to let you know you’re not alone.

Whatever you’re grieving, however you’re processing your grief, however long you’ve been grieving – you’re ok. You are not strange. Grief is strange, yes, and it affects us in all kinds of strange ways, but it is not who we are. It is something we experience. And though we may grieve in different ways, we share the common experience of grief. So we can comfort each other regardless of our different circumstances.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:4, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

If you’re in need of comfort, I hope you receive the hug I’m sending you today.

You are not alone.

You are ok, in the midst of the pain, because Jesus is holding you.

And according to Jesus, you are blessed.

“Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted.” –Isaiah

No estás loco.

No estás solo.
