Waterfall of Grace (Catarata de Gracia)

What a crazy time we are living through right now! I am so thankful we know that our God is in control! And I am so thankful for His grace that is unending, unfailing, and ever-present.

Today I wanted to share a poem I wrote last year after visiting the valley of waterfalls in Switzerland. And the video below captured a special moment when the waterfall created a rainbow - reminding me that not only is God's grace powerful and ever-flowing, but He keeps His promises and works all things for good for His children.

I hope these truths encourage you today.

Waterfall of Grace

It came from the water –
First flowing, rushing,
Over rocks, moss, and sand,
Moving downward, onward,
Until it reached the place of stillness,
Quiet, calm, peace.
There at last I saw it,
In the midst of flowers, trees, and sky –
My reflection,
Disturbed only by gentle ripples from a passing breeze.
A familiar face in an unfamiliar place,
Imperfectly perfect.
And I understood anew
The beauty of grace,
That comes like the water.

Imperfectamente perfecto.
Y entendí de nuevo
La belleza de la gracia
Que viene como el agua.

It’s Ok If It Doesn’t Make Sense (Está Bien Si No Tiene Sentido)

Robin Mark is one of my favorite worship musicians. One day as I was listening to his music, I was deeply moved by these words:

“You’re everywhere in every place,
In every time and every space,
And every breath that I take you lend,
You’re the only one who satisfies,
Only one who makes my life make sense.”

This simple chorus resonated with me so strongly, especially the last line.

Have you ever felt like your life didn’t make sense? Have you felt accused by others who think you’re doing something wrong, because things just don’t “make sense” the way they are right now? Have you questioned God and cried out for answers, only to still not know why you’re going through certain things?

I think there are many times and circumstances in this life that to us just don’t make sense. But it’s ok. We are not God. We do not live in every time and every space. Our vision and understanding are limited. But God is infinite! If we saw what He saw and knew what He knew…I think we would smile and say, “Ah yes, that makes sense.”

And I don’t write these words lightly. Tears are flowing as I type this, because I want my life to make sense – to myself and to others. But it doesn’t.

So I have a choice. I can stress out over what I don’t understand, and feel condemned by others who don’t understand. Or I can choose by faith to smile, even through tears, and say, “Jesus, you’re the one who makes my life make sense.”

I think about Jesus’ life when He was on earth. He was criticized, misunderstood, judged, condemned, mocked, and hated. And He was perfect! If the only perfect person who ever lived still experienced these things, what makes us think we won’t?

Jesus, of all people, should have been only adored, respected, and admired. But His life didn’t “make sense” from a human perspective. His family criticized the way He did ministry. His disciples questioned and misunderstood Him. The Pharisees mocked and slandered Him. And no one seemed to understand why He died. It looked like a great tragedy. Ah, but from heaven’s view, it made perfect, eternal, beautiful sense!

Aren’t you glad Jesus didn’t worry about whether His life made sense to people? Aren’t you glad He understood the Father’s perspective and plan? Aren’t you glad that eventually God revealed that plan so clearly, so that now we have experienced the amazing gift of salvation in Jesus? What made no sense to people in Jesus’ day was later proved to be the marvelous wisdom, grace, and power of God!

I don’t know what you’re going through today. And I don’t know how all the seemingly crazy pieces fit in God’s eternal plan…but I know, by faith, that they do. Somehow, from heaven’s view, your life makes sense. And so does mine.

“You’re everywhere in every place,
In every time and every space,
And every breath that I take you lend,
You’re the only one who satisfies,
Only one who makes my life make sense.”

In the last four years, I’ve traveled more miles than I can keep track of. – And God has been with me in every time, place, and space.

I’ve lived through months of not being able to breathe well. – Yet somehow God continued to give me enough breath to live.

I’ve suffered to the point where it felt like I had nothing left. – But Jesus was still more than enough to satisfy my heart.

I’ve been through so many things, and still living with many things, that don’t “make sense.” – And it’s ok, because somehow in God’s wisdom, grace, and eternal plan – my life does make sense.

Would you pray for me? Pray that I would take time to stop, to close my eyes, to see Jesus seated in heaven, and by faith, to smile and say, “Ah yes, my life makes sense.”

And I will pray that for you too.

Blessings my friends,
-Joanna

No somos Dios.

He vivido meses sin poder respirar bien.

-Joanna
