Tenacity (Tenacidad)

Ok, I admit it. I can be stubborn. At least that's what some people call it. I call it having tenacity. :) I come by it naturally, from both sides of my family. Even my selfless, kind and gentle grandmother was tenacious in her own way.

But I believe it's not all bad. In fact I think it can be a good thing.

I wouldn't have made it through eleven years of chronic illness without tenacity.
My mom wouldn't have found the help she did for my health challenges without tenacity.
My friends wouldn't have kept praying for me for eleven years without tenacity.

Life can be so hard at times. That's when we need tenacity. We need to not quit, to not give up, to keep seeking answers, to keep praying when heaven seems silent, to keep believing what we know is true, to keep going in spite of every obstacle, To keep putting one foot in front of the other day by day.

Tenacity.

Being stubborn can be bad when we won't listen to advice or consider other options, when we keep pushing on a door God has closed, etc. That kind of stubbornness isn't helpful to us or others.

I think the difference between stubbornness and tenacity is whether or not we're submitting our will to God's.

Not long ago I was struggling and praying about something I really didn't want to give up on. I wanted to keep pushing for a solution. But I told God if He wanted me to leave it, I would. I submitted my will to Him and asked Him to show me if I should persevere with tenacity or let it go.

He let me know it was good to keep pushing for a solution. So I still am. And hopefully one will come soon. I know it's His grace that enables me to persevere with tenacity. It's His grace that enables you to persevere with tenacity.

One day all our needs will be met, all trials ended, all wrongs righted...when we see Jesus face to face. Until then we can thank Him for the gift of tenacity, something He knew we would need in this life. And we can thank Him for His holy tenacity that never, ever gives up on us.

God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." -Hebrews 13:5b

Tenacidad

-He. 13:5b
