Remember Those... (Recuerda a Aquellos…)

Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. -Hebrews 13:3

Last week I read this update about the war in Sudan. Two power-hungry men are fighting for control of the country by destroying people and property everywhere they go. The carnage is horrific. The blood of innocent people is spread all across the land.

To us it makes no sense for a leader to destroy a country he wants to rule over. But this kind of war has nothing to do with sense or principle and everything to do with evil.

I wept as I read about the suffering people of Sudan. I cried out to God, "Please stop those evil men! Protect your precious ones!"

How much more God's heart must grieve than my own!

When I dried my tears and looked up, suddenly my own life seemed so beautiful and blessed. The day before I had been complaining about the little challenges I face. But now I realize again how much I have to be thankful for.

Why do you think God commands us to remember those who are persecuted, mistreated or suffering?

Because He does.

He remembers everyone who cries out to Him.

The criminal on the cross next to Jesus said,
Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.
Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise." -Luke 23:42-43

Even while dying, Jesus heard and answered the cry of a broken man.

We are not here on this earth for our own pleasure or fulfillment. We are here to be Jesus' hands and feet, to minister His love and grace to a hurting world. When we remember those who are suffering, we are not only more grateful for our own blessings, but we are motivated to DO something for those in need.

Thankfully, in today's world there are many organizations providing practical help to the persecuted, mistreated and suffering. Courageous Christ-followers all over the world are piercing the darkness with the light of the gospel and God's love. We can support these organizations. And even when there's nothing tangible we can do in certain situations, our PRAYERS can have a powerful impact.

In His perfect sovereignty, God has chosen for a time to let evil exist in this world. But, praise His name, our mighty Father is always in the business of overcoming evil with GOOD!

When we remember those who are mistreated and suffering - when we pray for them, send resources, help others take the gospel into dark places, etc. - then we are part of God's powerful work. We are His messengers of grace. We are partners with Him in overcoming evil with HIS goodness.

Glory to God!

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. -Romans 12:21

What can you do today to remember those...? How will you partner with God to let Him display His goodness through you?

Recuerda a Aquellos…

-He. 13:3

¡Gloria a Dios!

-Ro. 12:21
