Unfailing Grace (Gracia Infalible)

Unfailing Grace I was reading Luke 22 recently. It's a passage I've read many times, but this time God showed me something I hadn't seen before.

As Jesus was being arrested, something surprising happened:

"When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, 'Lord, should we strike with our swords?' And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear. But Jesus answered, 'No more of this!' And he touched the man’s ear and healed him." -Luke 22:49-51

The book of John tells us that Peter is the one who wielded the sword and Malchus was the name of the servant. These were real people. This was a genuine life and death situation.

Jesus was about to be arrested and executed. If ever there was a moment when He might have been tempted to think only of Himself, this must have been it. Instead He reached out His hand and healed the servant's ear. He showed love to His enemy. In the midst of His own anguish, He extended grace to an undeserving soul.

Can you picture this moment? A quick flash of a sword, a yelp of pain, the bustle of soldiers preparing to respond...then Jesus' voice pierces the dimly lit night, His touch heals the man, the servant exclaims his surprise, onlookers stare in wonder....

I imagine there was a quiet pause as everyone present considered this unexpected act of power and grace.

Even in the face of His coming death, Jesus did not cease to demonstrate grace - because He is GOD. And God's grace never fails.

God is never too busy to offer grace. He never takes a break from being gracious. He never runs out of grace. His grace is unfailing!

And sometimes His grace flows over us even when we aren't aware of it. Peter thought he was doing the right thing by defending Jesus with his sword. But it was really the wrong thing to do. Yet in healing Malchus, Jesus also demonstrated grace to Peter. Jesus covered Peter's mistake and even brought something good out of it (as I'm sure that Malchus' life was altered from that moment and he undoubtedly told others about his experience as well).

This just astounds me! How beautiful it is that even while facing His own trial, Jesus' grace flowed over both Peter and Malchus - two different sinners, both desperately in need of grace.

This portrait of Jesus fills me with awe! And this same Jesus is the one who lives inside me and you.

May we continually adore with grateful hearts our Savior - the God of unfailing grace!

Gracia Infalible

Hace poco estuve leyendo Lucas 22.

Mostró amor a Su enemigo.
