Rain (Lluvia)

It's a rainy winter day. The pitter-patter of raindrops reminds me of childhood days in Colombia...
...hearing buckets of rain pounding on the tin roof
...holding an umbrella and feeling the vibration of each raindrop
...playing mud-soccer in a downpour
...splashing barefoot through puddles
...curling up in a hammock and watching it pour...

Ah, good times. Happy memories. =)

Somehow rain in California or Arizona or Florida just doesn't feel the same as rain in Colombia.

In Colombia I could smell the rain approaching before it actually came down.
I could feel the stirring in the wind.
I could see the clouds sweep across the valley obscuring everything from sight.
I could hear the movement of the rain before even one drop fell.

In Colombia rain was an experience - engaging all my senses, delighting my heart, refreshing my soul.

Perhaps you've had a similar experience with another part of God's creation.
...standing in the shade of a huge tree, feeling a gentle breeze wrap around you like a comforting friend
...sitting on the beach watching the waves roll in, hearing the pounding of the surf, smelling the salty breeze
...hiking to the top of a summit and catching your breath at the view before you....

These are special moments, moments when we get...
a glimpse
a touch
a taste
a whisper
...of the Divine.

"The LORD said [to Elijah], 'Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.'
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper." -1 Kings 19:11-12

Many times it's not the dramatic things that open our eyes to God, but the simple, quiet things...the gentle whispers of His Spirit.

Are we watching, waiting, listening?

Let it rain, Lord. Let it rain.

Lluvia

. . los suaves susurros de Su Espíritu.

¿Estamos observando, esperando, escuchando?

Que llueva, Señor. Que llueva.
