Wow! As soon as I read that, I stopped. Tears came to my eyes. And I wondered, do I believe that? Do I even understand the power of the "book" God has given us - His own alive and active Word?
I think it's easy for us to drift into thinking that the Bible is just a book. A book that we read, study, analyze, organize, teach and discuss. But it's so much more than that!
I'll never forget what a missionary said when I was in Northern Ireland on a mission trip. He said, "The Bible isn't just black ink on white pages. It's the living Jesus."
Every word in the Bible comes from God and is alive! The Bible is powerful and life-giving! And sometimes ten words from this "book" is all we need to win the battle.
As you probably know, my mom has been facing some health challenges the last few months. One of those has been an irregular heart beat. So last week I got out some colored pens and index cards, and I wrote verses on them about the heart. Mom put them up around the house. So throughout the day she can read them and focus on what God's Word says about the heart.
Here are a few of the verses I chose:
When I called, you answered me; you made me bold and stouthearted. -Psalm 138:3
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:7
...his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. His heart is secure, he will have no fear.... -Psalm 112:7-8
It's been good for me to see the verses as well.
Hebrews 1:3 says, The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word.
Jesus is so powerful that simply His word sustains all things.
No matter what our circumstances or struggles, there is something in the Bible that will speak to our need. There is a powerful word available for each of us, if we'll use it.
Oh how I praise God for giving us the Bible - His powerful Word! May He help us to understand and utilize it more and more.

Palabra Poderosa
No hace mucho estuve leyendo un libro de la serie “Archivos de Antropos”. (Una serie de fantasía similar a las “Crónicas de Narnia.”) El rey y su pequeña banda de seguidores leales están preparándose para luchar contra el brujo y sus hordas malignas. El rey dice: “Necesitamos el libro antiguo de la historia y las leyes de Antropos. Diez palabras del libro podrían hacernos ganar la batalla.”
¡Uy! Tan pronto como leí eso me detuve. Asomaron lágrimas a mis ojos. Y me pregunté, ¿Yo lo creo? ¿Puedo siquiera entender el poder del “libro” que Dios nos ha dado – Su misma viva y activa Palabra?
Creo que para nosotros es fácil dejarnos llevar por el pensamiento de que la Biblia es simplemente un libro. Un libro que leemos, estudiamos, analizamos, organizamos, enseñamos y discutimos. ¡Pero es muchísimo más que eso!
Nunca olvidaré lo que dijo un misionero cuando estuve en Irlanda del Norte en un viaje misionero. Dijo: “La Biblia no es simplemente tinta negra sobre páginas blancas. Es el Jesús vivo.”
¡Cada palabra en la Biblia viene de Dios y está viva! ¡La Biblia es poderosa y dadora de vida! Y a veces diez palabras de este “libro” es todo lo que necesitamos para ganar la batalla.
Como probablemente sepas, mi mamá ha estado enfrentando algunos desafíos de salud en los últimos meses. Uno de esos ha sido un latido irregular del corazón. Así que la semana pasada saqué algunos lapiceros de colores y fichas y escribí en ellas versículos acerca del corazón. Mi mamá los colocó en toda la casa. Así durante el día ella puede leerlos y enfocarse en lo que la Palabra de Dios dice del corazón.
Aquí están algunos de los versículos que escogí:
Y la paz de Dios, que sobrepasa todo entendimiento, cuidará sus corazones y sus pensamientos en Cristo Jesús. -Fi. 4:7
…Su corazón está firme, confiado en Jehová. Asegurado está su corazón; no temerá... -Sal. 112:7-8
Para mí también ha sido bueno ver los versículos.
Hebreos 1:3 dice: El Hijo es el resplandor de la gloria de Dios, la fiel imagen de lo que él es, y el que sostiene todas las cosas con su palabra poderosa.
Jesús es tan poderoso que simplemente Su palabra sostiene todas las cosas.
Sin importar nuestras circunstancias o luchas, hay algo en la Biblia que hablará a nuestra necesidad. Hay una palabra poderosa disponible para cada uno de nosotros, si vamos a usarla.
Oh, como alabo a Dios por darnos la Biblia -¡Su poderosa Palabra! Que Él nos ayude a entenderla y utilizarla más y más.
