I admire my friend's desire to keep learning and growing. I admire even more her willingness to put that desire into action.
I admit that since my health has greatly improved, I've actually read less. I've had so much fun DOING things that I haven't been reading as much. Now I have to plan for it. But I do still want to keep reading. Books have had a profound impact on my life - changing my thinking, inspiring me, convicting me, teaching me.... I can't even imagine where I'd be today without the input of so many wonderful books that I've read.
I want to briefly share five of my all-time favorite books. If you haven't read them yet, I highly recommend you plan to at some point. (I'm including links to Amazon so you can read fuller descriptions and reviews of each book if you wish.)
The Knowledge of the Holy - by A.W. Tozer
Aside from the Bible, this is the most incredible book I've ever read! Tozer's eloquent descriptions of who God is dramatically expanded my understanding of the Holy One. That led me to greater awe of Him and deeper love for Him.
Since this book was published in the 1960's, the language and vocabulary can be a bit challenging at times, but it's well worth it to mine the rich treasures of who our God is. Also, this isn't a book you read once and then leave on a shelf. I've read it at least 6 times, and it gets better each time! =)
Transforming Grace: Living Confidently in God's Unfailing Love - by Jerry Bridges
I love to read about grace, and this is one of the best books on that wonderful topic. I love how Bridges explains that grace is needed and flows into every area of our lives, not just for our salvation.
This book truly transformed my thinking about grace and helped me live more aware of the waterfall of God's grace pouring over me.
In The Arena - by Isobel Kuhn
I've read this book several times as well, and it's always a blessing. Isobel Kuhn was a missionary to China in the early 1900's. She shares her experiences and the vital life lessons God taught her along the way. She actually wrote several books during her lifetime, but this is my favorite.
Seeking the Face of God: The Path To A More Intimate Relationship - by Gary Thomas
Several years ago, after being disappointed from reading some of the modern "self-help" type Christian books, I came across this one and was totally captivated!
Thomas writes passionately about developing greater intimacy with God and includes quotes from classical Christian writers of centuries ago, such as - Pascal, Fenelon, Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Francis De Sales, John Climacus, William Law, and others. This book communicates deep truths in an inspiring way. It's another one that gets better with each reading.
Undaunted: Daring to do what God calls you to do - by Christine Caine
I was inspired by Christine Caine the first time I saw her on TV. And her book is a beautiful expression of her story, her passion, and her undaunted love for Jesus. If you want an injection of passion and fearlessness, this is just the prescription! =)

Sigue Aprendiendo, Sigue Leyendo
Quedé muy impresionada por mi amiga la semana pasada. En verdad desactivó su cuenta de Facebook para poder pasar ese tiempo trabajando en su lista de lecturas para 2014. Tiene una lista de 15 libros, en varios géneros, que quiere leer este año.
Admiro el deseo de mi amiga de seguir leyendo y creciendo. Admiro aún más su disposición para poner ese deseo en acción.
Admito que desde que mi salud ha mejorado grandemente, en realidad he leído menos. Me he divertido tanto HACIENDO cosas que no he estado leyendo mucho. Ahora tengo que planear para hacerlo, pero todavía quiero seguir leyendo. Los libros han tenido un impacto profundo en mi vida – cambiando mi manera de pensar, inspirándome, convenciéndome, enseñándome… No puedo ni imaginarme donde estaría hoy sin el aporte de tantos libros maravillosos que he leído.
Quiero compartir brevemente cinco de mis libros favoritos de todos los tiempos. Si todavía no los has leído, recomiendo grandemente que planees hacerlo en algún momento. (Estoy incluyendo enlaces a Amazonas para que puedas leer descripciones completas y resúmenes de cada libro, si lo deseas.)
El Conocimiento del Dios Santo - por A. W. Tozer
Aparte de la Biblia, ¡éste es el libro más increíble que he leído en la vida! Las elocuentes descripciones de Tozer de quien es Dios expandieron dramáticamente mi entendimiento del Santísimo. Eso me llevó a un mayor asombro de Él y un amor más profundo por Él.
Desde que se publicó este libro en los años 60, el idioma y vocabulario puede ser un poco desafiantes a veces, pero vale la pena extraer los ricos tesoros de quien es nuestro Dios. También, este no es un libro que leas una vez y luego dejes en la biblioteca. Yo lo he leído al menos seis veces, ¡Y cada vez me parece más bueno! =)
Gracia Transformadora: Viviendo Confiado en el Amor Infalible de Dios - por Jerry Bridges
Me encanta leer acerca de la gracia y éste es uno de los mejores libros en ese maravilloso tema. Me encanta como explica Bridges que se necesita y fluye en cada área de nuestras vidas, no solamente para nuestra salvación.
Este libro transformó verdaderamente mi manera de pensar acerca de la gracia y me ayudó a vivir más consciente de la catarata de la gracia de Dios vertida sobre mí.
En La Arena - por Isobel Kuhn
Este libro también lo he leído varias veces y siempre es una bendición. Isobel Kuhn fue una misionera a China en los primeros años del siglo veinte. Ella comparte sus experiencias y las lecciones de vida que Dios le enseñó en el camino. En realidad Kuhn escribió varios libros durante su vida, pero éste es mi favorito.
Buscando el Rostro de Dios: El Camino hacia una Relación Más Íntima - por Gary Thomas
Hace varios años, al sentirme decepcionada por la lectura de algunos de los libros cristianos modernos del tipo de “auto-ayuda”, encontré éste ¡y me cautivó completamente!
Thomas escribe apasionadamente sobre desarrollar una intimidad más grande con Dios e incluye citas de escritores cristianos clásicos de siglos pasados, como Pascal, Fenelon, Teresa de Avila, Juan de la Cruz, Francisco De Sales, John Climacus, William Law y otros. Este libro comunica verdades profundas en una forma inspiradora. Es otro que se vuelve mejor con cada lectura.
Sin desmayar: Atreverse a Hacer lo que Dios te llama a Hacer - por Christine Caine
Me sentí inspirada por Christine Caine la primera vez que la vi en televisión. Y su libro es una bella expresión de su historia, su pasión y su amor sin desmayo por Jesús. Si quieres una inyección, de pasión y osadía, ¡ésta es justamente la prescripción!=)
Bueno, estos son algunos de mis máximos favoritos. Confío en que los consultes y seas bendecido por ellos también.
Tengo una pila de libros nuevos para leer en 2014 y la esperanza de encontrar algunos para agregar a mi lista de favoritos. =)
