"God Stories" (“Historias De Dios”)

Last week I heard a man tell a story about when he and his wife were starting in ministry. They were very poor and had a bad, leaky roof that they couldn't afford to fix. So the man prayed for God to send a hailstorm to "damage" the roof so the insurance would replace it.

About a month later there was a terrible hailstorm that actually centered over his house! The insurance adjuster said that his roof was the worst damaged one in the neighborhood!

I laughed and I cried when I heard that story. Isn't that amazing? God not only hears our prayers, but He can do anything - even send a hailstorm when needed! =)

That's an unusual story, certainly. But we all have our own stories of God's faithfulness, love, provision and care. I call them "God stories".

One of my favorite "God stories" is something that happened during my mission trip to Northern Ireland in college.

The place where we were staying only fed us cereal for breakfast. And the only kind of cereal they had that I could eat was Rice Crispies. Let me tell you that even two bowls of Rice Crispies is not enough to hold anyone until lunchtime.

By the end of the first week I was desperate for some real breakfast food! I asked one of the staff ladies if they ever served pancakes or something like that. She said occasionally they did, but not usually with a big group like our team.

So I asked my teammate if we could pray for pancakes for tomorrow's breakfast. She said, "Sure, why not?" So we prayed and asked God for pancakes.

The next morning she caught me in the hallway on my way to the dining room. She had a huge grin on her face. "Guess what!" she exclaimed.

I knew exactly what. PANCAKES!

I ate six of them. Yes I did. =)

Now it's true that pancakes aren't nearly as important as a proper roof over your head. But I love the fact that God cares about all our needs! Nothing is too big for Him to do; nothing is too small for Him to care about.

In our daily lives it's so easy to forget who God is, what He has done and what He can do. That's why we need to keep telling each other these kinds of "God stories". They remind us of who our God is and how He acts on our behalf.

Please share one of your "God stories" with us in the comments.

“Historias De Dios”

¡PANCAKES!

Me comí seis. Sí, lo hice. =)

In Guinea you can't go to the corner store to buy what you need or want. It takes an almost two hours trip to get to where you can buy your supplies.
For some time we had supply buyers. They stocked the Mission store and we ordered from there.
Well, once I was going to have guests for lunch and wanted to prepare something that needed carrots, peas, and green beans; quite difficult to find fresh. I prayed, "Lord, I would like to have a small can of mixed vegetables".
When I was able to go to the Mission Store I found what I wanted and, when I went to pay, the supply buyer's wife said to me, "I told Ev I wanted to buy that last can at the store, someone might use it. He didn't think we needed to, but I insisted".
God knew I wanted to use it. I prepared a good lunch and enjoyed it with my guests.

My daughter needed a special dress for a school banquet. We had no money for new clothing, but we asked God to provide. That week, my mom, who NEVER sent us money, sent us $20.00 in the mail. We used it to buy fabric for a beautiful new yellow dress!
